Australian Surf Life Saving Championships - Scarborough, WA 1st to 6th April 2008
A special mention to our medallists, Kelly-Ann Perkins bringing home a Gold and a Bronze medallion with her brother Kieren also winning Gold, Corey Jones, Rebecca Creedy, Samantha Johnston and Trent Bray each collected a Bronze mediallion. Congratulations to all our of members who went to WA to represent our club at the Aussies. We had some great results with our club being placed 21st overall with 59.5 points.
Day 4 Update - The final day of the championships saw the club collect a few more top 6 placings. Corey Jones obtained a gallant 3rd placing in the Open Male Surf Race. The U17 Female Taplin Team (Sam Johnston, Aimee Berridge and Tegan Parker) placed 4th in their event. Kelly Ann Perkins came a hard fought 6th in the U17 Ironwoman and Corey Jones placed 6th in the Open Ironman. The Club was placed 21st overall on 59.5 points. Well done to all members involved.
Day 3 Update - More medals and points were won today in atrocious conditions at Scarborough Beach. Kelly Ann Perkins and Sam Johnston placed third in the U17 Female Board Rescue. Sean McCullagh placed 4th in the U19 Surf Belt Race and also 4th in the U19 Rescue Tube Rescue (with Carl Perkins Jnr, Kieren Perkins and Sam Llewelyn). Tegan Parker had a great swim in the U17 Rescue Tube placing 6th. The Club is currently placed in 15th position on 50.5 points. There are a number of competitors in major finals on Sunday including Corey and Chloe Jones in the Open Ironman/woman finals.
Day 2 Update - The Club achieved some more good results today. Trent Bray picked a bronze medal in the U17 Male Board Riding, whilst Rebecca Creedy was an equal 3rd in the Open Female Belt Race.
Day 1 Update - The Club got off to a flying start with Kieren Perkins and Kelly Ann Perkins winning Gold in the Under 17 2km Beach Runs. The U17 Female Surf Team then placed a close 4th in their final (team was made up of Kelly Ann Perkins, Tegan Parker, Aimee Berridge and Kate Glen). The Open Female Surf Team (Rebecca Creedy, Trudee Hutchinson, Chloe Jones and Kate Glen) also placed 5th in their final. The club is in 12th place overall after day 1. |
